 Stop biting me please!

Parrots do not bite in the wild so why do they bite us?

Simple - we teach them to.

You lean forward over your bird, stick your finger through his cage, he gives you all the warning signs and you do not listen. He nips you as a further warning and you react with OUCH  WHO'S A NAUGHTY BOY!Look at the reaction you just gave him. So if he wants that energy again he bites. He finds the harder the bite the louder the reaction. He is not being evil, he is giving you what he thinks you enjoy, after all you jump around squealing.

So how do we turn this around?EASY! Stop reacting and listen to your bird.

If he attempts to bite you, just turn around with no energy and no words. Get all the family to comply to this method. You must remember that when he is good you MUST give him loads of attention. When you want to stop a behaviour ignore it. It really is that simple. Consistency is the key.

So how long will it take?

It will only take about three weeks if you are consistent.

Good Luck!

The bird sitting on my dear friend's arm came to the sanctuary as a serious biter.  The other two birds also came with biting issues. Using the technique advised they stoped biting within two weeks.
